Upon strolling in it wasn’t immediately clear where The Asteroid Galaxy Tour were actually going to play. It was at the bar that I was kindly informed that the bands would be playing upstairs. Considering how cosy the bar was I was intrigued. I needn’t of worried. There’s no escaping the fact that the venue is more on the diminutive side of things but the acoustics are brilliant and the packed crowd gave the place an electric atmosphere.

First up were some non descript local band who passed the time but lost the interest of the audience rather quickly. Finally after a bit of a wait The Asteroid Galaxy Tour arrived on stage and what a welcome sight they were. They didn’t so much as hit the ground running as saunter along leisurely. That’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable. Indeed the music speaks for itself; their glorious mix of Mo-Town and Psychedelic pop was very tight. Visually they reminded me of a Danish Madness albeit less hyperactive and with a ravishing female singer who’s voice was just as ethereal live as on CD.

I'm in two minds about this gig. The music was undoubtedly excellent but the band lacked any real energy. I don’t know if the laid-back attitude is just something they do or the fact that they were suffering from a bit of jet lag (they had recently arrived from New York). Regardless it was a fun gig and the crowd were behind them 100%, which can only be a good thing. If you want to listen to some great music but with the minimal of physical exertion check out The Asteroid Galaxy Tour.
