"Was that a celebrity?" a random person walked over and asked as fans photographed pop-rock duo The Veronicas arriving at the venue. "Yeah, The Veronicas!" a group of fans sharply responded, "Who?" - they may be unknown here in the UK, but have already taken Australia and the US by storm. Showcasing their debut album 'Hook Me Up' it's clear that The Veronicas are planning to invade the UK.
Tonight's return to the UK, after three years away, housed a bunch of Veronicas-starved fans eagerly awaiting to hear new material live. From the moment you stepped inside you could tell that you were at a Veronicas show - from the pink neon light with their logo to the lighting and general setup - fans and industry folk alike knew that they were all in for once hell of a show.
Backed by a full band with full electronics they opened with the new international single 'Take Me On The Floor', at which point I had one half of the Veronicas, Jess, leaned forward right in my face singing at me - well, we were singing at each other... Flying into 'Everything' and 'Hook Me Up' the girls showed us exactly what they had to offer. A stripped-down version of 'This Love' then followed, silence filled the floor as the rawness of the performance was embraced.
The girls' debut single, and only "old" track which appeared on the set, '4ever', followed which had hardcore fans and people who had never heard of them before on their feet jumping about the place; and in the blink of an eye it was time for the last song of the six-song set, the upcoming single 'Untouched' - drowned out by fans screaming and shouting along the lyrics, it was clearly the highlight for both the audience and the Veronicas.
Sticking around after the show, the girls signed autographs and posed for photos for a massive queue of fans waiting to catch a glimse of them... What a shame that I managed to blink in my photo with them!...
Promising the fans that they'll be back this year, the Veronicas are definitely worth watching-out for...
