Rocking up slightly late to the gig I completely missed the support act Matthew Koma but had plenty of time to find my spot for the main attraction, Owl City aka Adam Young who is evidently extremely popular, judging from the loud screams of “Adam” and “I love you” from the obviously excited audience members at the front.
The show began with a huge entrance of lights and loud music which was pretty epic and a great way to start the gig. Jumping straight into the music there were a mixture of songs from the album Ocean Eyes and The Midsummer Station including: Dreams and Disasters, Speed of Love, Metropolis, Dementia, Deer in the Headlights and Umbrella Beach. Adam gave a great performance in every song with bounds of energy and obvious enthusiasm and love for what he does. The band were impeccable with their talent shining through which was particularly evident when they performed a song with no lyrics yet still manage to blow everyone’s minds.
The set was pretty simple which was just right considering the vast amount of lights used throughout the show; a more complicated set would have made it too much.
Perhaps the biggest excitement of the night came Adam announced they would be performing the bands hit (and possibly most well known) single, ‘Fireflies.’ Eagerness and delight filled the air as nearly every single person in the room began to sing along, although nearly everyone managed to adopt a very American accent, which was entertaining. The biggest dance track of the night however came right at the end when after being cheered back on stage, Owl City proceeded to perform the hit single ‘Good Time’ which everyone jumped and danced to and sang along with which was a lot of fun. Needless to say I had all of Owl City’s tracks in my head on the tube ride home.
A brilliant performance from Adam and the band who have a passion for what they do. Definitely one to see live.
