There is quite an argument between Ian Siegal’s fans as to whether his recent liaison with the Dickinson Brothers (Luther & Cody) is good for his music or if it is restricting him. Personally I think that he sounds at ease and Ian Siegal at ease is a great thing to hear.

This seemed to be borne out on Wednesday night as he played two hours of sublime music and had the capacity crowd dancing and cheering the place to the rafters.

There is little question that Luther Dickinson is one of the best slide players around and his playing set against Siegal’s seems to drive both of them on to their best but the body language of both men makes it clear that they are enjoying their playing and enjoying working together as well.
The set included a number of favourites from the ‘Candy Store’ album and The Skinny and the versions of ‘I Am The Train’ and ‘Bayou Country’# really showed how far Ian has come in his playing while his playing on ‘Bang Bang Lulu’ and his vocals on ‘Moonshine Minnie’ really hit the mark with real intensity and melody on show.
Siegal lost his friend and mentor, Big George, recently and he played ‘Talk A Walk In The Wilderness’ in tribute – I have seen him a dozen times probably and this is the best I have ever seen this track.

All in all a great night and proof, if it were needed, that Britain has still got one of the most intriguing and satisfying live performers in the game.
