Beyoncé to pay Winehouse tribute on Gatsby track
01 April 2013
Beyoncé Knowles will cover an Amy Winehouse classic for The Great Gatsby movie soundtrack
The singer’s rendition of the late star’s single Back to Black from her 2006 Grammy-winning album of the same name will feature in the forthcoming film directed by Baz Luhrmann.
OutKast rapper André 3000 is also rumoured to be featured on the re-imagined track. He previously worked with the Bow Down singer on the single Party from her 2011 album 4.
The news comes shortly after it was revealed Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, is producing the soundtrack. Jay famously featured on Amy’s 2006 single Rehab.
“It’s a very different take on Back to Black," a label spokesperson said.
Back to Black was produced by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi and stormed music charts in Amy’s native Britain and worldwide.
The Great Gatsby is scheduled to hit US cinemas on May 10.
The film, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name, stars Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio as title character Jay Gatsby.
Amy passed away in July 2011 at her home in Camden, London. She was 27.
A coroner ruled the star "died as a result of alcohol toxicity" and recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.
