Blink 182 have revealed to excited fans that they will be recording new material ahead of their tour next year.

The American rockers hinted to fans on twitter that they were penning some new tracks - when bassist Mark Hoppus tweeted: "It begins"- followed by a link to his Google + profile where he had a screen shot of music software programme Logic.

His cryptic clues sparked excitement among the band's fans who were left questioning whether they were about to release a new record.

The veteran bassist decided to confirm the rumours on his profile, where he said: "Sorry, not trying to be mysterious. Yes, this is me opening a new file for a blink-182 song. I had three ideas today, all very different. I wish I knew how to operate Logic better. These guitar tracks sound like Frankenstein's monster singing dub step..... (sic)"

Mark - who also has another band +44 - has previously spoke of his loyalty to his Blink 182 bandmates - Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker - saying he didn't "have any plans to write songs with anybody else right now", and that "everything I'm writing right now is for Blink 182."

The 'All The Small Things' singers have a busy schedule ahead which includes performing in Australia next year for the Soundwave 2013 festival.
