Rock legend Chrissie Hynde has lent her support to the Not in my Cuppa campaign to stop factory milk from battery cows ending up in the nation’s favourite drink.

Chrissie, the American front woman for the Pretenders, is supporting the World Society for the Protection of Animals’ (WSPA) campaign, which is against allowing plans for the UK’s first mega dairy in Nocton, Lincolnshire.

Chrissie says “I want everyone to join me in saying a big 'no' to milk from mega-dairies. Why should people put up with factory milk from battery cows when we've already proven we don't want eggs from battery hens?

It's hardly the milk of human kindness. We can do better than this, so please go to www.notinmycuppa.com and tell the supermarkets how you feel about this today”.

The animal rights activist has joined a number of singers including Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke who have been saying no to factory milk from ‘battery’ cows.

Nocton Dairies want to build an industrial dairy operation that will house 3,770 cows in 22 acres of indoor sheds stretching the length of seven football pitches. The developers admit their objective is to ultimately run a massive 8,100 cow mega-dairy at Nocton.

Each animal would be expected to yield 10,000 litres of milk per year which is 43% higher than the current national average. North Kesteven District Council is scheduled to announce their decision in March.

Not in my Cuppa is warning that giant mega-dairies are rife with potentially damaging consequences for animal welfare, the environment, our countryside and our farmers.

According to a recent Ipsos MORI survey commissioned by WSPA, although 90% of adults across Great Britain buy milk at least once a week, a staggering 61% say they would never buy milk produced in large-scale indoor dairy sheds. Yet if the Nocton Dairies application is approved next month, consumers won’t know if the milk their drinking comes from the mega-dairy or not.
