David Byrne will visit the UK this month for a series of special events based around the themes in his new book, How Music Works, in which the Talking Heads co-founder explores the joy and the business of making music, and analyses how profoundly music is shaped by its time and place.
In London David will be joined by musician, producer, and Head of Accidental Records Matthew Herbert, to discuss what music means in a time when the very idea of music is changing.
The event will be hosted by Guardian journalist Alexis Petridis. In Manchester legendary Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam will chair a discussion between David and leading music blogger Mark Mulligan on the changes in the consumption and production of music in the digital age. And in Glasgow founder of independent label Chemikal Underground, Alun Woodward, will talk to David about how independent labels and artists have survived the various industry tsunamis over the decades.
