Long days. Sunny weather. Sandals. It can mean only one thing - the British summer is well and truly here and festival season is upon us once more.
With this summer set to be a serious scorcher, we’re hoping there’ll be no tents washed away in flurries of mud, absolutely zero need for wellies, and emergency ponchos will stay buried at the bottom of your rucksack, never to see the light of day. So let’s take a look at the main festivals that will be tempting you with great acts, bands, artists, and – of course – bars, for the rest of the summer…
Reading/Leeds
The rockiest festival offering of them all will be gearing up to bring you the best weekend of music in both Reading and Leeds on 22-24 August 2014. Headliners include The Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, and Blink 182 plus Jake Bugg and Enter Shikari. For festival wear, think 90s grunge – all spaghetti strap dresses over t-shirts and Doc Marten boots.
Isle of Wight
Just around the corner, is the Isle of Wight Festival which will be in full swing from 12-15 June. Biffy Clyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Kings of Leon will be entertaining the fans, while a cabaret club and wood-fired hot tubs make for tempting sidelines.
The Isle of Wight is basically the UK’s answer to Ibiza… it’s a tiny little island with a laid-back vibe - and some great little beaches. OK, so the weather might not be as fab as Ibiza’s but you can always dream. Keep cool in
pretty tops, maxi skirts, and low-tops and you’ll fit right in at this distinctly chilled-out festival.
V Festival
Two sites and a whole lot of music from pop to rock, makes V Festival one of the biggest and best on the music scene. It all takes place on the 16th and 17th August and features massive acts such as Justin Timberlake, Ed Sheeran, and The Killers.
The beauty of V is that it blends pop acts seamlessly with rockier offerings, so when it comes to festival style anything goes. However, there’s one look at V that always looks great and that’s boho chic. Think
denim shorts teamed with gladiator-style sandals, and a floaty tunic all accessorised with a stash of friendship bracelets.
Beacons Festival
The Beacons Festival is the little outsider on the festival circuit. It’s smaller than the big guns but certainly packs a punch on the music front. Cue the likes of 80s legends, The Fall, British Sea Power, and ones to watch, Fat White Family. It all takes place from 7th – 10th August.
Standon Calling
Finally, it’s Hertfordshire’s turn with Standon Calling. This boutique little offering takes place from the 1st - 3rd of August with Maximo Park, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, and Public Enemy headlining. A dog show, swimming pool, and a nightclub in a cowshed make for excellent alternatives to the musical offerings. The vibe aims to be pretty off the wall, so embrace your inner hippy and kick back in face paints, a floppy hat, and a pair of cute little boots
