Florence Welch has joked voters should reconsider nominating her for a hottest female gong as her face looks like it’s “on backwards”.
The Florence + The Machine frontwoman has been nominated in three categories for the NME Awards, including Best Solo Artist, Best Track and Hottest Female.
Florence is modest about the latter nomination.
“Oh wow – right now I feel terrible, so that’s making me feel better. You should see what I look like now and you wouldn’t have voted for me!” she exclaimed in an interview with NME magazine.
“It looks like my face is on backwards.”
Florence is overjoyed at her nod for Best Solo Artist. However, the star thinks the recognition should be spread amongst those who work closely with her.
“That’s amazing but there’s no way that I could take full credit for everything that’s been done – it’s such a collaborative thing. I work so closely with other people, my band, Paul Epworth and Isabella [Summers],” she revealed.
“I guess I started it, I created this project, so in that sense it has been a solo thing that I’ve brought people into. If I won this award it would be shared between so many people.”
Florence has discussed what winning would mean to her. The songstress has reminisced about previous hell-raising award shows, and says there would be even more reason to celebrate should she scoop an award.
“I’d be so excited to win an NME award – I’ve never won one! It’d be amazing. I’ve only been once to the NME Awards ceremony and it’s the drunkest I’ve ever been at an awards ceremony,” she recalled.
