Florence Welch still feels like she messed up when she appeared on MTV News drunk.

The singer is a festival favourite and enjoys playing gigs around the world. Fans were disappointed when she and band Florence + and the Machine disappeared from the scene for a year, but the 28-year-old says she needed the time to face her own demons.

One of these was drink.

"When you're trying to live and love in a non-scheduled situation, you're just like, 'Oh, sh*t, I just keep f**king up. What am I doing? Like ending up on MTV News drunk," she told Rolling Stone.

"There was a big party at my house one night. I got really drunk, and we moved to the tiki bar that's round the corner. I hadn't performed in ages, and there's a house band there playing, and my friends are tossing me shots, so I went up onstage. Two days later, I get a phone call from my manager. Someone had filmed me singing and screaming and taking shots. And it ended up on MTV News. I was like, 'Oh sh*t.'"

The band are gearing up for the release of their third album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. Despite breaking her foot at Coachella, Florence is enjoying being back in the limelight. This is in part because of the down time she took last year.

"I had quite a monkish existence. I cycled to the studio, cycled home, read, ate, went to bed. It was like convalescing. But it really was magic," she smiled.
