Q – the UK’s leading monthly music magazine has today honoured the best music of the last year at one of the most prestigious and star-studded dates on the music calendar, The Q Awards 2013.
One of the most lauded events of the musical year took place at London’s Grosvenor Hotel and were once more hosted by Al Murray in the guise of his alter-ego The Pub Landlord.
Alongside some of the music world’s best new acts such as JAGWAR MA, THE PALMA VIOLETS. LAURA MVULA, and TOY guest presenters included TINIE TEMPAH, EXAMPLE, WRETCH 32, DIZZEE RASCAL, Rolling Stones legend RONNIE WOOD author JOHN NIVEN, SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR and Swedish popsters ICONA POP.
Among the days winners were ROBBIE WILLIAMS who is now officially a Q Idol, BIFFY CLYRO who took home the Best Album award for their ‘Opposites’ opus, ELLIE GOULDING received the Best Solo Artist title, FOALS won the Best Live Act gong fighting off the Arctic Monkeys and Mumford And Sons, the ARCTIC MONKEYS weren’t left empty handed though as they won Best Track for ‘Do I Wanna Know’? National treasures the PET SHOP BOYS were awarded Outstanding Contribution To Music, VAMPIRE WEEKEND were crowned The Best Act In The World Today and SUEDE were anointed as a Q Icon. The full list of this years winners follows below.
Commenting on this year’s awards, Q’s senior editor Matt Mason said: “It's been a privilege to celebrate another brilliant year for music. We keep being told that these are tough times for the industry, but the evidence here suggests the opposite. The artists honoured today reflect the variety and richness of the current musical landscape. From Jake Bugg to John Cooper Clarke, they give us everything we ask for from rock and pop stars: outstanding, inventive music delivered with absorbing attitude and character. We’re particularly delighted to salute evergreen artists such as Robbie, the Pet Shop Boys and Suede, who’ve all made excellent new music over the last 12 months. They’re brilliant reminders of the enduring power of the great British pop act – anyone who saw Suede’s thrilling Q Awards show at the Garage last week will agree with that.”
