On Sunday 13th April 2014 Katie Melua will perform at London’s Union Chapel as part of her European Simplified tour which will see her performing a stripped-down set accompanied by just bass and keyboards.
With this simplified production the focus will be on the beauty of Katie’s voice and the strength of the songs.
“I know this will test me as a musician like never before but I love the purity and nakedness of performing with hardly any accompaniment. I have always included one or two stripped down songs in my previous gigs but never a whole tour like this. There is nothing to hide behind. Perhaps describing it as acoustic isn't completely accurate, as there will be keyboards and bass, so the tour is called 'Simplified'” explains Katie.
Earlier this year Katie released her sixth studio album ‘Ketevan’ which entered the UK charts at number 6 - Katie joined a very small group of female artists, which includes Madonna and Kate Bush, who have scored 6 consecutive UK top 10 studio albums. ‘Ketevan’ also entered the top 10 in France, Poland, Denmark, Germany, Holland and Switzerland in its first week of release.
“I'm unbelievably proud to have released Ketevan and though I'll be singing some of the new songs from 'Ketevan' the 'Simplified' tour will cover a wide range of material from all the albums. For anyone who knows my music I hope they will enjoy hearing the songs in this new format. For anyone who might be curious, I hope to share the excitement of something new.”
Katie will be joined by Tim Harries on bass and Mark Edwards on keyboards.
