Kelly Rowland insists there are "no hard feelings" between her and her former record label.
The 33-year-old singer is currently recording a follow-up record to her album Talk a Good Game, which she released last year. It marked her second solo offering with Universal Republic.
While there were rumours suggesting Kelly was "dropped" from her label, it has since been confirmed she departed the company amicably. The musician is excited about what the future holds.
"It’s been wonderful so far, a fresh new spin on everything, with writers, producers, just being inspired, just creativity," Kelly told HuffPost Live.
“I feel like right now, I just needed something new and I’ve earned the right to make my own choices and make my own decisions. I wish them well, they wish me well. No hard feelings, I just needed a fresh, new start.”
Kelly's upcoming music includes new instruments for her, such as horns and flutes. She also took inspiration from some of her favourite female singers, citing Diana Ross as one of her idols.
"I’ve been inspired by the queens that have gone before us, incredibly strong women who aren’t afraid to take risks and just be innovative," she smiled.
"There are different offers on the table. I just want to see what it feels like. I’m just in the studio on my own and just having a really good time just being creatively free."
On top of this Kelly also hinted at a possible acting career in the nearby future. She mentioned she has been reading scripts and is prepared to take on new work.
“The time is here and I’m ready," she added.
