Katy Perry and John Mayer have decided they want a “really intimate” wedding ceremony, according to reports.
The couple sparked marriage rumours last week, after Katy was spotted wearing a ruby ring in the shape of a heart on her engagement finger as she enjoyed a romantic Valentine’s date with John.
Although it was later claimed that the band was given to Katy as a sign of John’s commitment rather than a proposal of marriage, insiders claim the music stars have been discussing their future.
It is believed they would like to tie the knot near to where Katy grew up in Santa Barbara, and want the nuptials to be a low-key affair.
“Katy and John want to have a really intimate traditional ceremony with only their closest friends and family. They’re both from fairly traditional families and don’t want a big party,” a source told British magazine Grazia. “They had so much fun when they visited her hometown that Katy and John have both agreed it would make sense to do it there. They loved San Ysidro because it’s so private and peaceful with amazing scenery.”
Katy – who was previously married to British comic Russell Brand - proudly showed off her impressive new piece of jewellery last week as the couple left an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles. It is believed John went shopping himself to choose the one-of-a-kind ruby ring.
Those close to former womaniser John are shocked by how he has transformed since falling for 28-year-old Katy.
“While this might not be the official ring, it’s a symbol of their commitment. Katy and John’s relationship has become very serious very quickly,” a source explained. “Katy always swore she wouldn’t rush into marriage again, but they get on so well and she really thinks he’s changed. His friends can’t believe how much she has tamed him, and Katy’s parents absolutely adore him.”
John, 35, fuelled wedding rumours by revealing his desire to settle down recently. The musician - who has previously dated stars including Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift – confessed his romance with Katy feels different from anything he’s ever experienced.
“Of course [I can see myself getting married]. I’m still the kid from Connecticut. That’s what you do,” he said last week. “For the first time in my life, I don’t feel like I’m in a celebrity relationship. I know it’s high profile. It’s hard to explain… For me it feels like that’s very human.”
