Beyoncé Knowles is waiting to put her new record out because she's "the queen".

Pharrell Williams has been working with the singer on her upcoming album, which doesn't have a release date yet. She has previewed a few tracks, including Bow Down/ I Been On, but Pharrell explained she has no intention of making her music public until it's perfect.

"B's album is crazy. Let me tell you what it is. She's very particular. She's a Virgo. And she's not going to put it out until it's ready and feels like it's right to her," he told Billboard. "She's got a very specific taste. I guess that's the reason she's Beyoncé. Her name is recognisable around the globe and that's huge. That comes from someone that has very particular taste. When you know what you want, you won't stop until you get it. [Other people are hearing her album] and are like, 'Whoa!' And she's like, 'Yeah, I'm almost done.' And she's the queen."

Pharrell has been involved with a number of 2013's biggest tracks, including Daft Punk's Get Lucky and Robin Thicke's song Blurred Lines.

He's pleased with his success, but doesn't take anything for granted. Apart from anything, the 40-year-old star can never tell when he has a winning song on his hands.

"Everything in this life is numbers and cause and effect. The music is the cause. But the effect is not guaranteed. There's been a lot of songs where I think 'Man, I don't know why this never blew up!'" he admitted. "There are a lot of factors that need to kick in. And the biggest one is the people. So if they don't vote for the song, purchase the song, stream the song, then there's no 'big'."

One thing the star is proud of is his ability to push musical boundaries. He is inspired by change and always thinks about what is "missing" in the charts when he starts laying down songs.
