Brad Pitt apparently didn’t want his children to see him play a cruel man in his new movie.
The hunk acts as a producer on Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave and also has a small role in the drama, appearing as the only decent white character near the end. Michael Fassbender portrays an unpleasant slave owner in the picture, which is already generating a strong Oscar buzz. According to insiders, Brad was offered the part of the slave owner, but turned it down.
“I didn’t want my kids to see me in this role,” Brad apparently told a source, according to New York Post.
Earlier this year, Brad admitted he wouldn’t let the six children he raises with fiancée Angelina Jolie watch 12 Years a Slave. The film tells the story of free man Solomon Northup – played by Chiwetel Ejiofor - who is abducted and sold into slavery.
“Maybe my eldest I would [show it to] right now. I'd rather for the others to get a little bit older and understand the dynamics of the world a little more,” he explained before explaining why took on a producer role.
“It's why I got into film in the first place. It's one of those few films that cuts to the base of our humanity.”
While much has been made of the cruelty in the movie, director Steve insists the main theme is far more positive.
“It is about love,” he said at a screening in New York City on Tuesday. “This is a man who believes in his soul he will be reunited with the people he loves.”
