Prime Minister David Cameron has lent his backing to Rock the House, a Parliamentary music competition founded by Mike Weatherley MP and backed by the music industry and a huge roster of music legends from Alice Cooper to the Bee Gees Robin Gibb.
The Prime Minister confirmed that he would be taking part in the competition by nominating musicians and bands from his Witney constituency and talked of his love of music saying:
"I've always loved 'Whisky in the Jar', by Thin Lizzy, as a song with one of the best guitar riffs in the history of rock music. I have it on i-tunes or play it when needing a lift. "
The Prime Minister was talking after receiving an application from the band ‘Reaper’ in the Under 18 category.
Rock the House is a Parliamentary live music competition that supports the UK live music industry and promotes the importance of Intellectual Property rights. The competition sees MPs nominate the best live musicians and music venue from their constituencies. The competition this year invites live music venues, solo artists, bands and under-18s to write to their MPs and enter themselves into RTH 2012.
The competition is backed by both Ministers, cross party MPs, industry professionals and bodies – and Rock Stars, including Alice Cooper, Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, Bee Gees Robin Gibb, Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus, Whitesnake's Bernie Marsden, Bullet For My Valentine's Matt Tuck, Anthrax's Rob Caggiano, Busted and Fightstar’s Charlie Simpson, Gallows’ Laurent Bernard, Don Broco’s Rob Damiani and Yes’ Rick Wakeman who are all official Patrons.
