Robin Thicke’s dad Alan thinks the singer’s heartbreak will “speak through his music”.

The 37-year-old Blurred Lines crooner and his estranged wife Paula Patton announced their separation in February.

Since the split, Robin has publicly declared he wants to get back with Paula multiple times, and apparently he is penning all of his sorrow into new songs.

"From my perspective, I always let Robin speak through his music," actor Alan told Us Weekly of his son. "He's in the middle of a great album right now. A lot of power in the album."

Robin and Paula, 38, who met when they were teenagers, got married in 2005 and they share four-year-old son Julian together.

Alan claims he will always welcome his daughter-in-law and grandson with open arms, as a marital separation doesn’t mean they are no longer family.

He also confirms it isn’t yet determined whether they will get back together or file for divorce.

"We love them, they're great people. Whatever they decide to do, it will be the right thing,” Alan said.

According to TMZ, Paula and Robin have been speaking a lot since their split. At first she was clear about wanting a divorce, but of late their discussions have focused on how he can win her back.

The actress is reportedly yet to hire a divorce lawyer and is pleased with how intent Robin has been on remaining in Julian's life.

Their chats have apparently been "smooth and cordial", although the Mission: Impossible star has been clear she was unhappy with Robin discussing their private life on stage.

Shortly after their separation was confirmed, Robin told the crowd at one of his shows that he'd penned his track Lost Without U about Paula.

"For y'all that don't know, me and my wife separated, but I'm trying to get my girl back. She's a good woman," he said.
