Selena Gomez's mom apparently had no idea the singer was firing her.
The 21-year-old's parents had acted as her managers since 2007 but last week it was reported she had decided to end her working relationship with them. TMZ now claims her mother Mandy Teefey wasn't aware of her daughter's plans.
According to the website, Mandy and Selena's stepdad spoke to the star on Thursday to ask if she was "absolutely sure" of her decision. It's thought she replied that she was.
They had spoken about the arrangement previously, but it still came as a shock to Mandy.
"Mandy tells us she thought last month's conversation was just talk... and she's having a hard time processing the fact that she's no longer Selena's manager," TMZ writes.
Selena's mom and her stepdad started managing her when she won a role in Disney's The Wizards of Waverly Place.
It's claimed the brunette singer-and-actress now feels she's "outgrown" them and is looking for bigger representation.
Mandy added that she respects her daughter's decision and that she wants to keep producing movie projects with the star.
Selena and her parents have previously clashed over her on/off relationship with pop's 20-year-old bad boy, Justin Bieber. However, it's not thought this influenced her decision to drop them as managers.
Meanwhile, the tattooed singer seems keen to get things back on track and is reportedly working on a love song he wants them to record together.
“He knows it’s something she really wants because it will be huge for her career. He wants to do it for her because he loves her - he loves feeling like her hero,” a source told HollywoodLife.
