Clive Shakespeare, the original guitarist for Sherbet, has died at the age of 62 from cancer.

Clive was born in Southampton, UK on June 3, 1949.

In April, 1969 he co-founded a completely different line-up of Sherbet and within less than a year recruited Daryl Braithwaite initially to share vocals with Dennis Laughlin, but Dennis left a few months later and Daryl became the sole lead singer.

Over the next 12 months drummer Danny Taylor left and was replaced by Alan Sandow, Sam See departed to be replaced by Garth Porter and Doug Rea was replaced by Bruce Worrall who was replaced in 1972 by Tony Mitchell.

Clive co-wrote the Sherbet hits ‘Cassandra’, ‘You’ve Got The Gun’, ‘Life’, ‘Only One You’, ‘Slipstream’ and ‘Silvery Moon’.

He performed on the first four Sherbet albums but left the band in 1975 to be replaced by Harvey James, who passed away on January 15, 2011.
