here. Self-produced by the three members of Sigur Rós – Jón Þór Birgisson, Georg Holm and Orri Páll Dýrason –Kveikur will be released on June 17th, and is their first album since signing to XL Recordings worldwide.
Sigur Rós have already given us a taste of the new album on the American TV circuit, performing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In conjunction with the stream of Kveikur, Sigur Rós are asking fans to listen to the album and let them know what it makes them feel, see and imagine. Fans are encouraged to take photos, make videos or write down their thoughts, tag them with the hashtag #kveikur on Twitter, Vine and Instagram, and everything will be collated at http://kveikur.sigur-ros.co.uk. Speaking about the inspiration about this idea, bassist Georg Holm said, "As a band we always write the music first and listen to it later to work out what it might be about. That's how we come up with the words, by approaching the music without preconceptions and seeking meaning that was hidden from us at the point of creation. The music tells us what it is about.”
Meanwhile, Sigur Rós have announced the ultimate U.S. leg of their globe-spanning tour, which will consist of a final, 20-show run starting at Detroit’s Laneway Festival on September 14th. The tour began a year ago on the East Coast trailing the release of the band’s sixth studio album Valtari, and will continue following next week’s release of its hard-rocking successor, Kveikur. This tour will reach deep into America, and will see Sigur Rós play the biggest shows of their career in some of the country’s most renowned venues, which included NYC’s Madison Square Garden earlier this year. Sigur Rós’ acclaimed live show is not to be missed, and can be seen for the final time in the U.S. during their tour this fall – when it’s done, it’s done.
In addition to performing at some of the biggest venues in North America, Sigur Rós are also primed to play some of the largest stages in the world this year. These shows will include their biggest ever UK headline show at London’s Wembley Arena on 21st November, in addition to UK festival headline slots at The Eden Project, Cornwall (June 30th), Jodrell Bank, Cheshire (August 30th) and End Of The Road festival, Dorset (August 31st)
