Just after the sad new emerged of Whitney Houston’s death some iTunes shoppers noticed her album suddenly rose in price.

‘Whitney – The Greatest Hits’ was initially on sale for £4.99, but the price shot up to £7.99 in the wake of her death.

Understandably many fans were disgusted by the price hike and branded iTunes ‘shameful’ and ‘greedy,’ but it turns out it had nothing to do with Apple and it was in fact down to an error by Sony Music.

Whitney’s record label claim her album was incorrectly priced to start with and have since apologised for their mistake.

The statement reads:

“Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the U.K. iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologize for any offense caused.”
