Sting doesn’t want to waste time being “maudlin” now he’s 60.

The musician reached the landmark age on October 2. It’s made him think about where he is in life, and he’s generally happy. He knows some struggle with the ageing process, but he’s decided to remain positive.

“Obviously you have more past than you have future, that’s a given. But I think it just makes what you have left more intense,” he explained. “You have to live every moment, so I’m not going to waste any time being maudlin. I’m fit, I’m healthy, I’m happy, I have a great family, I have a great career – what am I going to be miserable about?”

The star has also been marking 25 years as a solo artist. He can’t believe he’s achieved such longevity in the music industry, but has no plans to retire quite yet.

Sting explained something he’s extremely proud of is how relevant many of his tunes still are.

“Twenty-five years is a big chunk of time, it’s a quarter of a century so we thought it was worth celebrating. I’m still here, I’m still making music and I was forced to look back and what I heard I was quite pleased with. I thought, ‘Oh, not bad.’ I’ve done OK,” he told British television show Daybreak.

“I can’t really say anything sticks out. Just generally I’m surprised when I hear my music from when I was a younger man that I made a lot of right decisions, made a few wrong decisions, but I made a lot of right ones and that pleases me. I just want that to carry on, I want to have another 25 years.”
