Taylor Swift says her mistakes have resulted in her “greatest career triumphs”.

The 24-year-old singer has had an award-laden career to date, winning herself multiple Grammys and critical acclaim worldwide. And she attributes much of this success to her the more troublesome aspects of life.

"As much as I would really like to have saved myself heartache, embarrassment or gossip, I also know that my biggest mistakes have turned into my best lessons and sometimes my greatest career triumphs," she told America’s ASOSmagazine, according to Just Jared.

She certainly does not wish she’d avoided the “bumps in the road” she’s encountered. In fact, she is apparently thankful that they have enriched her music. Her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, for example, has notably influenced many of her songs about love and breaking up.

"If my life had been turbulence free, no bumps in the road at all, maybe my music would be more beige," Taylor noted.

The Love Story songstress also opened up about her much celebrated fashion sense. She admitted it’s not public opinion that affects what she pulls out of her wardrobe, but the opinion of her “friends”.

"When I'm getting dressed, it's always based on what my friends will think," the star said. "They are my number one priority and the opinions of girls are more important to me at this point in my life."

On the topic of friends, Taylor made it clear she’s picky when it comes to selecting hers. She doesn’t want to spend her time with anyone trying to latch onto her for her fame.

"A lot of ‘celebrities' surround themselves with these very chic cling-ons who don't really have much of a job or a passion," Taylor suggested. "They follow around their celebrity BFF and provide constant affirmation for them and I'm really not interested in that kind of deal."
