U2 are “giddy” with the success of their Broadway hit Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark.
It has been announced that the musical broke all box office and attendance records during the last week of 2011.
The show made $2,941,790 over nine performances during the seven days.
U2 penned the music and lyrics for the show and are delighted with the news.
The musical had a difficult start after several actors were injured and a producer died. It also suffered poor reviews and delays in opening.
"For all the problems, there was magic on the stage. Things did get chaotic and messy after our producer Tony Adams died,” Bono said in a statement.
"But this week's news has us all giddy again and we are raising our glasses to Tony, to our indefatigable cast, crew, creative and production team."
Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark was once branded the biggest flop on Broadway by critics. U2 guitarist The Edge is thrilled things have turned around for the musical and thanked the public for their support.
"It just goes to show that you can't keep a good superhero down,” he smiled. “This is a proud day for everyone who has been a part of this show. The Broadway public have voted with their feet."
The previous record was held by Wizard of Oz musical Wicked, which grossed $2,228,235 in one week in January 2011.
