Both Shania Twain and Santana have Platinum awards hanging on their walls that they did not earn.

A study of the SoundScan official sales compared to RIAA’s Gold and Platinum certifications show that Shania Twain’s ‘Come On Over’ has been accredited for more than 4 million sales than it actually earned and Santana’s ‘Supernatural’ sales figure has been fudged more than 3 million by RIAA.

According to RIAA, Shania Twain ‘Come On Over’ has been certified for sales of more than 20 million but the official figure sales from SoundScan is 15,487,000.

Santana ‘Supernatural’ has been awarded 15 times platinum status (15 million sales) but according to SoundScan has sold 11,687,000.

RIAA has Twain’s ‘Come On Over’ listed as the 9th biggest selling album of all-time in the United States but the real figure from SoundScan doesn’t even have it in the Top 20.

Santana ‘Supernatural’ is the 22nd biggest seller of all-time according to RIAA, but the official SoundScan figure places it outside the Top 50.

Both the Shania Twain and Santana albums were released after 1991, when SoundScan started to register sales.

SoundScan reported its Top 10 selling albums of its era (since 1991) yesterday.

They were:

1. Metallica – Metallica (15,620,000)
2. Shania Twain – Come On Over (15,487,000)
