Yoko Ono has been announced as speaker for the SXSW music conference and festival and will also perform on the last night of the conference.

Last year, Yoko and son Sean assembled a new line-up for the Plastic Ono Band and released the album ‘Between My Head and the Sky’.

On Friday March 18, she will sit down and talk with Jody Denberg at the Austin Convention Center. Then on Saturday night March 19 she perform at the intimate The Elysium.

‘Between My Head and the Sky’ was released in 2009 through Chimera Music. The Plastic Ono Band line-up for the record included Yoko, Sean, Cornelius and Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto.

The original Plastic Ono Band formed in 1969 was husband John Lennon’s musical release from The Beatles. The supergroup at the time featured John and Yoko, Eric Clapton, Klauss Voormann and Yes drummer Alan White.

John came up with the name Plastic Ono Band after Yoko was offered a gig in Berlin in the 60s and used four tape recorders on stands as her band.

As Plastic Ono Band, the couple released the now classics ‘Give Peace A Chance’, ‘Instant Karma’, Cold Turkey and Power To The People’.
