Re-Issued ahead of their debut album out on 6th September. Still one of my singles of 2010!!
Manchester duo Hurts have already had a great start to the year, after coming in at Number 4 on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll. And after hearing 'Wonderful Life' plus a couple of other tracks from Hurts, you can see why they have achieved such prominence.
'Wonderful Life' conjures up similar emotions to Black's track of the same name, although these are certainly not the same track. Hurt's track tells the tale of a man contemplating suicide over the Severn, and then being saved by the women of his dreams. It's intelligent electro-pop with sufficient edge to distance itself from much of the charts. The track evokes memories of Talk Talk, Ultravox and even a bit of Tears for Fears. This track has just been given an Arthur Baker make-over and this has add a new dimension with slightly heavier bass lines and additional production. Both work in their own right, but I think Arthur Baker has added a new level to this near perfect track.
Hopefully 2010 will be the year for Hurts - on the basis of what i have heard so far they fully deserve it.
