If the Greeks – or anyone else for that matter - wants to get away from it all then they could do a lot worse than get hold of Potergeist’s 4th album, Crocodile Tears. The Athenians have been around since 2004 and that’s evident from the tightness of the performances on this album.

They may have skirted with stoner and blues in the past but now Potergeist are pretty much a full on heavy metal band, in the trad/thrash vein. Opener Swamp Muse Summoning hits the ground running and they pretty much go from there.

If there’s nothing terribly original here there’s plenty of plus marks for sheer enthusiasm and passion for their music. They chug along in a pleasing way and the likes of What Then and Atonement are solid metal numbers. They do stretch out a bit on Truth and that may be something they develop as they look towards the future.
