The Garage was packed on Friday night for the return of The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing – Kicking Cancer’s Arse celebrating lead man Andy beating cancer.

The Steampunks were out in full regalia and there was a remarkable sense of bonhomie with fake beards and cinched waists all over.

Opening act The Cesarians were well received and their arty and mannered playing was superb. A real joy to see their bassist sporting a violin bass and the violin and horns sounded great – definitely ones to watch out for.

The main act hit the stage to an enormous roar from the crowd and tore into ‘Victoria’s Secret’ with the entire crowd singing the “Zombie Albert” refrain back at them. The sight of a portly and moustachioed gentleman pogoing while holding tightly to hit bowler hat is one that will live long in the memory but it seemed to fit the evening perfectly.

Andrew O’Neill’s guitar lines were as raw and penetrating as ever and Andy (Gerhard’s) vocals were right on the money while Marc and Jez were laying down a monstrous back line.

They mixed it up with numbers off the ‘Now That’s What I Call Steampunk’ album as well as ‘This May Be The Reason ….’ and a stack of new numbers from the album that will probably be out next year. The new numbers sounded superb and felt as though they fitted perfectly in to the bands ethos and the crowd took to them pretty well.

An evening of brilliant excess and some great music, can’t wait for the next one.
