Now! That’s What I Call Disney is three whole disc of complete nostalgia. I’m talking ‘You’ve Got a Friend In Me’, I’m talking ‘Cruella Deville’, and I’m talking ‘A Whole New World’ son. I’ve been waiting my whole fricken’ life for this album, and unlike most things I look forward to, it’s only mildly disappointing.

Naturally, everyone loves Disney films (apart from The Rescuers - nobody loves The Rescuers), and everyone loves the songs from Disney films (apart from ‘Tomorrow is Another Day’ from The Rescuers - nobody loves ‘Tomorrow is Another Day’ from The Rescuers), so it would be pretty hard to mess this compilation up. Nevertheless, some of the choices to include (or not include) certain songs are pretty messed up.

Girls exist (yuk!), so inevitably, songs from The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas are included: dudes will have to skip these songs if they don’t want cooties (it is, however, acceptable to listen to ’Just Around The Riverbend’ if you picture Dolph Lundgren singing it whilst violently canoeing against the current of whitewater rapids). Inevitably, you’ll also have to put up with the occasional song from High School Musical and Hannah Montana, but it’s cool, because you’ll build your index finger strength by pressing the ‘skip’ button.

I understand that girls and children like Disney films (but I’m not happy about it), but some of the choices are just stupid: for example, not a single song from Tarzan is included, giving Phil Collins yet another reason to cry himself to sleep at night. The same applies for The Princess and the Frog and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, both of which have completely badass soundtracks which are entirely unrepresented. Surely songs like ’Let’s Get Together’ from The Parent Trap (seriously?) and ‘They Live In You’ from The Lion King Broadway Show (dude!?) could have been sacrificed to make room for literally anything from these three badboy soundtracks.

Most bizarrely of all, ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ from Mulan, the song that defined a generation, is left out. Proving this is some kind of sick (and not in the slightest bit funny) joke, the song they have included from Mulan is the turgid ‘Reflections’. What would Walt say?

On the plus side, most of the songs from Hercules are included, which kind of makes up for everything. Also, if The Lion King is your thing, you’re in luck, because almost every song from it is included. These are alongside, y’know, the majority of Disney songs ever, making it pretty hard not to love this album. It’s hurt me deep by neglecting ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ though - real deep.
