Whether you are into music or movies, you have probably heard of Babymetal. It is one of the bands which took heavy metal music to another dimension.
If you haven’t heard about this band yet, it is safe to say the group are innovators in a new genre called Kawaii metal.
The musical genre includes elements of heavy metal and J-pop (Japanese pop). It is something that appeared in Japan in the early 2010s.
Babymetal is one of the bands that brought this genre to life, singing songs with lyrical topics that are seen by their fans as less hostile compared to heavy metal trends.
Bringing Kawaii Metal To The World
The Japanese heavy metal idol group, Babymetal, are considered the inventors of the Kawaii metal genre. According to many journalists and experts in music, their eponymous debut album pioneered the musical game.
It was described by many as a unique mix of genres, including pop, rock, heavy metal, electronic dance music, industrial, and melodic death metal.
Led by the then-16-year old singer Su-Metal and accompanied by the two then-15-year olds, Yui Metal and Moa Metal, this band consists of three girls screaming and dancing to tracks like “Gimme Chocolate!,” “Babymetal Death,” and “Headbangya!”
They were always dressed in their signature red and black gothic Lolita gear, brandishing fox-head devil horns.
BABYMETAL – “Live at Wembley”
What started as a journey into a new genre in heavy metal music quickly made Babymetal famous around the globe. Sports betting fans know The Wembley as one of the largest and most popular stadiums in the world – and Babymetal’s world tour had Wembley as one of its primary locations.
With incredible energy and a performance that is unique in many ways, Babymetal transformed into true legends in their genre. Babymetal performed on Wembley, which is the same stage that has been shared by bands like Iron Maiden, Queen, Dire Straits, and so many others.
The fusion of J-pop and metal is apparently what made Babymetal famous. Their appearance, technical shredding skills on the guitar, and innovation also made them likeable for thousands of new fans worldwide.
A Decade In The Business
Starting in 2010, Babymetal had one dream: to be famous. They seem to have overachieved on this goal, becoming a musical force and continuing to extend their popularity beyond borders.
The group is celebrating the 10th anniversary this year (2020) with many amazing accomplishments. Some of these include playing at Wembley, performing at the Glastonbury Festival (one of the most significant international musical events), and having millions of viewers on their YouTube channel.
In September, the world tour expanded to the United States, too. Fans who attended the concerts posted a myriad of trendy images on social media.
According to the experts, Babymetal’s success with their new “Kawaii metal” genre came as a result of the need for a change in heavy metal. The band has created a world where fans can smile and enjoy the music, a world that also appeals to die-hard metal fans and never fails to bring something innovative to the stage.
