With a brand new single released today, VNCCII tells us more…

Congratulations on the release of Hyper Drive! You are a songwriter and a music producer. Walk us through the creative process from start to finish. Where were you when you were first inspired to write the song?
I produced this song on Ableton Live and recorded the vocals on the condenser Neumann TLM 103 microphone. The song started with the production of the beat. I made this track in Australia a little while ago and I remember creating the beat for the ‘drop’ of the song and really vibing with its bouncy 808 vibe. The verses then flowed seamlessly with the lyrics and vocal melody after the drop was created. I really enjoyed the process of intricately layering my vocals with harmonies and panning the BV vocals to give an immersive feel. The song inspiration was based on this vision I had of the VNCCII character in a flying car/hoverboard chase scene in the space opera science fiction universe I had created. In this song, the VNCCII character is like the female ‘James Bond’ character and is forging ahead, fighting evil, and staying ‘on mission’ to help humanity.

Has VNCCII performed Hyper Drive live yet? If so, tell us about the performance, or of not, how do you envisage it?
Yes, I have performed ‘Hyper Drive’ and it’s been so much fun! I performed this song for shows in London and Monaco. It’s been so great to get a genuine reaction from the crowd to this song even before it has been officially released! Every time the song drops in the chorus, the crowd gets really into it! On a good sound system, you can also really feel the 808s! When I perform this song, it’s all about the acting and personality infused with some dance choreography. It’s a good time!

Tell us about three striking characteristics the VNCCII possesses that will appeal to fans.
VNCCII has a magnetic life force (in other words an X Factor presence on stage), she is unapologetic about believing in herself, and she is authentic when she undergoes her hero’s journey which makes her super relatable to fans as a Superheroine character.

What are your predictions for the future of the music industry and the Metaverse? How will it look in twenty years?
The future of the music industry and Metaverse will become more experiential, immersive, gamified, and transmedia. Artificial intelligence will continue to impact the future of the music industry in terms of content creation as well as generative AI in the Metaverse. The positive aspect is that the technology is becoming democratised to allow more open IP models of content creation between brand and community. On the flip side, there will be an increasing importance on the value of the human experience as well as quality Art. In terms of live music performances, the MSG Sphere is a North Star example of what is possible for the future of music production and shows with immersive live sound audio systems, as well as technology such as Disguise and real-time technologies such as Unreal Game Engine creating beautiful high-quality content for massive LED volumes. The ABBA Voyage show in London is another great example of a bespoke production and venue to utilize next-gen technologies of virtual avatars and holograms.

I was very honoured to be included in an IPSOS ‘What the Future’ Music report for VNCCII alongside the team at ILM that worked on the ABBA show. New physical arenas are currently being built (ie. MetArenas) at different capital cities around the world, which will provide that opportunity for true physical and digital hybrid shows with real-time telepresence. For instance, VNCCII could perform a show in a ‘MetArena’ in London to live physical fans, but there would also be real-time haptic feedback, augmented/mixed reality feeds for fans virtually around the world where they too could perhaps participate and co-create in the live music experience.

The future of the Metaverse needs to be built on open protocols, with universal standards of interoperability and a way for creators to monetize so it benefits both the community and the brand core IP. In twenty years, I can imagine the music industry is truly transmedia where artists have access to next-gen technologies, real-time capabilities, as well as A.I to seamlessly create what is in their mind’s eye and build compelling musical universes for their fans and community to be part of!
