It’s official the mullet is back!

Following in the footsteps of Fontaines DC and Just Mustard, here is another great band from Dublin – SPRINTS. With their Garage Punk energy and candid gritty lyrics, they have a veracious sound that should most definitely be experienced live!

With their anticipated arrival on stage The Scala went from Pozy (support band) cozy to standing cheek by jowl. The opening song ‘Ticking’ ignited the unwavering energy in the audience. Chubb (lead singer) announced new ‘haircuts’ and that the night would get faster, louder, and sweatier…she was not wrong!

Chubb said the band were overwhelmed by a sold-out Scala despite the travel disruptions of strikes, which incidentally, they fully support. They are a political band and have said that while their home nation is really getting there in terms of equality the band feel it was a long time coming and there is still work to be done. The band have great support over here in the UK from BBC 6, NME and their song 'Manifesto' is a firm favourite with their fans which was obvious on the night!

SPRINTS embody everything that is cool about indie, edgy vibrant guitars, propulsive drumbeats, driving bass, and screeching vocals.

After full on energetic performances they finished with ‘Little Mix’ - described by Chubb as a song that ‘examines modern existence but also growing up queer’…Chubb was very honest with her audience describing insecurities during the set, claimed they needed to find a purpose - not just grow up, get and education, get a job, get married, get a house…they thought they were never going to make it in music. However, with their honest songs and raw talent they have every right to overcome imposter syndrome.

Debut album, 'Letter to Self', comes out in Jan 2024 coupled with more gigs in the UK and Ireland… not to be missed! Guitar playing crowd surfing and jumping around in the mosh pit demonstrates that despite groans from the various corners of the pop/rock music multiverse guitar bands are not going away anytime soon.

Sprints are lead singer Karla Chubb, guitarist Colm O Reilly, drummer Jack Callan, and bassist Sam (I’m your man) McCann.
